Travel Tuesday: Scarpetta Miami

While we were in Miami, we had the opportunity to hang by the pool at Fountainbleu. About 30 minutes after we had lathered ourselves up with SPF 60 (no joke), it started to pour rain. So we poked around the hotel for a bit and happened upon Scarpetta. That place is GORGEOUS! Some amateur pics:

Have you every seen a chicer hostess stand????

I haven't be able to stop thinking about it --it literally took my breath away when I walked in. So  I put together a Scarpetta-flavored kitchen for fun:

Imagine warm white shaker cabinets, carrera counters with a big island and that circular, polished backsplash with a pale grey grout.  What do you think? Would you decorate your kitchen like a favorite restaurant?

Back to Reality: Weekend (and Vacation!) Update

Hi friends! How was your weekend? We mostly just padded around the house and relaxed with a few flashes of motivation here and there. My main goals were to finish unpacking and get a potted plant for the front door. Did great on the latter; the former...meh.

Rolling Greens nursery is our go-to for gorgeous plants. No, they're not the cheapest, but I wanted something really special, which we found (more on that this week!). They always have the most beautiful little arrangements at the register, and I couldn't resist these sweat peas:

I wish I could explain how amazing they smell; I hogged them for my (messy!) nightstand.

We also tried a new-to-us restaurant, called Esquela Tacqueria, in our old neighborhood. I would say it's the best Mexican I've had in a long time (and I was just in Mexico!). The place is super cute and I loved the shoe molds hanging from the ceiling.

Of course, P had to try her hand at photography, and I now have about 97 photos like this on my phone:

I haven't had a chance to tell you about our trip. It was kind of amazing, actually. We really didn't think we were cruise people, but we had the best time. It also helped that it was the Top Chef cruise. Not gonna lie--I definitely geeked out a few times, hence these pictures:

Elevator branding!
I loved going to all the cooking demos and Quickfire challenges, which went on every day:

Tom Coliccio and Gail Simmons cooking demo
Some of the chefs even shared their hobbies with us. Who knew Tom played guitar and sang?

Even more surprising was esteemed chef Hubert Keller's insane dj skillz!

One of things I loved about the trip was the opportunity to get off the boat and explore new places.

Key West from our balcony
We docked in Key West and I finally got to visit Ernest Hemingway's home, which I've always wanted to do.

I was so charmed by it, in particular his writing studio, where just about every novel he's famous for was written. And can we please note how on trend it looks? This could be taken straight out of Lonny, no?

The writing studio
There were so many eclectic little details, like this Mexican tile his second wife, Pauline, had put in.

Love the ceiling star detail.
The pool was especially beautiful, with all of that green overgrowth.

And I loved these little elephant stools that lined the pool. It's just so Serena and Lily.

It was such a great trip, but I'm happy to be back in LA, getting the house ready for summer. Thanks for letting me share!

Double G Interior Design

Have I mentioned that we won a week in this Paris apartment? Oh, yes. It's true. At a fundraiser, we lost our vacation-starved, wine-soaked minds and bid on a week's stay in this Louvre-adjacent flat:

I mean, if I had a dream apartment in the city of lights, I'd like to think I'd decorate exactly this way. Curious about the designers (Paris-based firm "double g"), I did a little research and came upon their website. It didn't disappoint:

Tres chic, mais non?

Easter at the Parker Palm Springs

Happy April! How was everyone's weekend? We skipped town on Thursday for a long weekend with friends in Palms Springs, aka My Happy Place. Things have been so crazy lately that a little decompression in the desert was just what the doctor ordered for our little family.

Our adorable villa:

Complete with rattan swing...

That P could not remove herself from, of course.

I appreciated this little toiletry tray of goodies which, naturally, I've absconded with (the goodies, not the tray!)...

We stuffed ourselves at Norma's and the Lemonade Stand on the regular.

And our (messy) bunny found us on Sunday morning!

Ta da!

A little egg hunt to go with our eggs benedict...

And one obligatory orange door shot before we headed back to rainy, cold LA (boo).

One week to go until our cruise! So much to do between now and then. How was your Easter?

Weekend Update: Stay Classy, San Diego!

Happy Monday after Thanksgiving! How was everyone's holiday? Our was amazing. Thanksgiving for us is always more a of #Friendsgiving, since we rarely travel back east for the holiday, which takes pretty much all of the stress out of it. We were still super busy, judging by these (crappy) cell pictures I took of our adventures.

Started construction on the guest house/site of my future office. This horrifying, dank corner will be a bathroom in (hopefully) a few weeks' time:

Sampled some paint....

Finally had coffee at our NEW KITCHEN TABLE (more on that this week!)...

Had a Frank Dog picnic at HD Buttercup...

Took an overnight trip to San Diego and chowed at this delish spot...

And walked onto Qualcomm field before we watched the Ravens defeat the Chargers (Go Purple!).

Can't believe how fast it all went. It's that time of year, though, and 2013 will be here before we know it!

xoxo
